A man shot his teenage girlfriend during an argument.

21-year-old Dimitri Harrell of St. Paul, Minnesota, was arrested for the shooting death of his girlfriend.

Harrell shot 19-year-old Samirria White, while she was holding their 3-month-old baby, police said.

Harrell told police that he accidentally fired the gun while the couple was arguing. The gun had been stored under the mattress of the babys crib.

White was shot in the head at close range, the coroner's office said.

There were several people inside the apartment when Harrell and White began arguing around 3:40 a.m., authorities said.

The womans 16-year-old brother heard the two screaming in their bedroom, and he listened as his sister shouted Don't point that gun at me, according to the police. Then the teenager heard a gunshot.

He ran into the room and told Harrell to get away from his sister. Harrell told the 16-year-old boy that he had no intention of firing the gun, which he bought a few days before the incident.

White died from her injuries. Her 3-month-old baby was not hurt.

Harrell has two children with another woman. In 2014, the mother of his other children filed for a protective order after Harrell allegedly shoved her into a car while she was pregnant.
